Con Billie Jean, nel 1984 Michael Jackson vinceva ben due Grammy Awards: quello per miglior performance maschile e quello per miglior canzone Rhythm & Blues. Contenuta nell’album da 109 milioni di copie, Thriller, il singolo da solo vendette 6 milioni di copie. Fu proprio durante un’esibizione live di Billie Jean che Michael Jackson eseguì per la prima volta il suo famoso passo Moonwalk, il quale rimane tutt’oggi inevitabilmente associato alla canzone.

Il titolo “Billie Jean” si rifà al nome di Billie Jean King, nota tennista californiana in attività negli anni ’60.
