Scritta dal bassista John Deacon e pubblicata nell’album dei Queen The Works del 1984, I Want To Break Free oltre che per la canzone di per se’ e per il successo che questa ottenne, è celebre per il videoclip che ne fu girato, in cui i membri del gruppo prendono in giro una soap opera del tempo travestiti da donne (brutte).
Curiosamente, il singolo di I Want To Break Free è più lungo del brano originale rilasciato con l’album di ben 61 secondi, il tempo occupato dall’intro di sintetizzatore e da un assolo di Brian May più lungo. Nel Regno Unito fu un gran successo, permanendo 15 settimane consecutive in classifica e raggiungendone la terza posizione.
