Jeremy venne rilasciato come terzo singolo dall’album di debutto dei Pearl Jam, Ten, nel 1992. La musica è stata composta dal bassista Jeff Ament, mentre il testo è stato ispirato ad Eddie Vedder leggendo su di un quotidiano la notizia di un ragazzino che si era ucciso a scuola con un colpo di pistola, davanti alla classe.
Nel 1993 la canzone ottenne, ai Grammy Award, le nomination per Migliore Canzone Rock e per Miglior Performance Hard Rock.
