Black Night è il più grande successo in classifica dei Deep Purple di sempre: pubblicato nel 1970, raggiunse il secondo posto delle classifiche del Regno Unito, ma in seguito all’abbandono del gruppo nel 1973 da parte di Ian Gillan e Roger Glover, la canzone non venne più suonata da nessuno dei componenti fino al giorno della loro reunion, nel 1984. Del singolo, che è stato riprodotto nel 1980 e poi nel 1995 per il 25esimo anniversario dell’album In Rock, esistono anche molte versioni live differenti tra di loro.
