Basket Case è un famoso pezzo inciso dai Green Day nel 1994 col fortunato album Dookie: è una canzone sulla paranoia, ispirata al cantante Billie Joe Armstrong dalla lettura del libro The Catcher In The Rye, scritto nel 1952 da J. D. Salinger. La musica è invece costruita dallo stesso Armstrong sulle note del celebre Canone in Re maggiore di Pachelbel (ovviamente in versione rilavorata, al punto quasi da non riconoscerne l’origine).
Il singolo riscosse successo in classifica e venne addirittura nominato ai Grammy Awards; è stato reinciso nelle varie compilation del gruppo e, nel 2006, votato la miglior canzone punk di tutti i tempi in un sondaggio della BBC Radio 1.
