Testo e Accordi per Chitarra di The Crystal Ship – The Doors
The Crystal Ship veniva pubblicata nel 1967 come terza traccia dell’album The Doors, esordio col botto del gruppo di Los Angeles, e poi da lì riproposta come B-Side del celeberrimo singolo Light My Fire.
E’ un brano a metà tra la psichedelia e la canzone d’amore, tant’è che probabilmente fu scritta in omaggio a Mary Werbelow, uno dei primi amori di Jim Morrison. L’immagine della nave di cristallo invece rimanda ad una leggenda celtica di una principessa che traghetta il suo innamorato nelle terre incantate a bordo di essa.
Si annoverano anche molte cover interessanti di The Crystal Ship, prima su tutte quella dello stesso Ray Manzarek (tastierista dei Doors) che nel 2008 ha proposto una versione di solo pianoforte molto più classicheggiante ma condita con numerose variazioni sul blues. Oltre ad essa anche quella dei Duran Duran del 1995 ed anche di Joe Perry, chitarrista degli Aerosmith, col suo album solista del 2005.
