Always On My Mind è un classico della musica country americana datato 1972, anno in cui venne composta da Johnny Christopher, Mark James e Wayne Carson per essere incisa dalla cantante rockabilly Brenda Lee, una delle più apprezzate nell’america degli anni ’60.
L’originale però non conobbe lo stesso successo di altre versioni realizzate in seguito: quella di Elvis Presley fu incisa contemporaneamente all’uscita dell’altra, sempre nel 1972. Era la B-side del singolo “Separate Ways”, inciso nel periodo di separazione dalla moglie Priscilla. che vendette più di mezzo milione di copie.
Altrettanto celebri sono oggi quella incisa da John Wesley Ryles (1979), Willie Nelson (1982, vincitrice di un Grammy Award) e Pet Shop Boys (1987).
