Losing My Religion venne rilasciato dai Rem nel 1991 come primo singolo dal loro album Out Of Time, ottenendo più successo di quanto i Rem avessero sperato, grazie ad una massiccia riproposizione in radio e specialmente in video. Lo stesso anno valse loro ben 2 Grammy Awards, un per la Miglior Performance Pop di un gruppo e l'altro per il Miglior Video in Versione Breve. La canzone è opera del chitarrista Peter Buck, il quale la compose mentre stava guardando la televisione con in mano un mandolino appena acquistato, cercando in qualche modo di impararlo da solo. Il riff della canzone è infatti eseguito proprio col mandolino. Bisogna dire che il grande successo di pubblico di Losing My Religion è stato accompagnato da un altrettanto notevole plauso della critica, guadagnando anche il 169esimo posto tra le 500 canzoni più belle di tutti i tempi del magazine Rolling Stone.
