Sixteen Tons è un brano reinterpretato e inciso da Ernest Jennings Ford, al secolo Tennessee Ernie Ford, pubblicato come singolo nel 1955 e che, proprio grazie alla versione del cantante del Tennessee, riscosse grande successo in tutti gli USA balzando in cima alla classifica Billboard. Si tratta di una ballata country scritta nel 1946 dal cantautore del Kentucky Merle Travis; il testo affonda nei ricordi d'infanzia, quando vedeva il lavoro usurante dei minatori della zona.
