Nowadays è un brano tratto dal celebre Chicago the Musical, uno dei tanti capolavori targati "Broadway", scritto nel 1975 da John Kander e Fred Ebb. Nonostante il grande livello qualitativo dello spettacolo, divenne un successo mondiale grazie alla riedizione degli anni novanta e, in seguito, al film omonimo del 2002. La vicenda è ambientata nella Chicago degli anni Venti, in un mix di amore e criminalità. La canzone appartiene alla parte finale del secondo atto e vede la protagonista Roxie perdersi tra sfiducia e delusione, quando l'amore e la carriera sembrano finiti.
