Respect è un brano scritto ed inciso nel 1965 dal cantante americano Otis Ray Redding Jr. Ricantata due anni dopo da Aretha Franklin è divenuta un inno femminista, considerato uno dei più rilevanti pezzi dell'era R&B, vincitore di due Grammy Awards ed incluso nella Grammy Hall Of Fame. Fu incisa da Aretha Franklin su pressione del suo produttore, entusiasta del successo ottenuto con Redding e curioso di sperimentarvi le doti vocali della cantante; fu assistita da King Curtis al sassofono e dalle sue sorelle Carolyn ed Erma ai backing vocals. E' stata classificata quinta tra le 500 migliori canzoni di tutti i tempi da Rolling Stone, e tra le cover più note si annoverano quella di Tina Turner e quella di Janis Joplin.
