The Fields of Athenry: Video

The Fields of Athenry è un grande classico del repertorio popolare irlandese, reinterpretato dai The Dubliners nelle loro esibizioni live. Canzone che risale al 1979, quando nasceva dalla penna del cantautore di Dublino Pete St John (all'anagrafe Peter Mooney), racconta una storia ambientata a metà Ottocento durante la cosiddetta "Carestia irlandese". Il protagonista è un uomo che, non sapendo come sfamare la propria famiglia, ruba il grano di un alto funzionario inglese; viene quindi condannato ai lavori forzati in Australia.
