You Oughta Know è il brano che venne estratto come primo singolo dal terzo album studio di Alanis Morrissette (Jagged Little Pill, 1995). Rappresenta una svolta nelle sonorità della cantante canadese in quanto fu la canzone di passaggio dal pop dei primi due album al rock: tale svolta non le valse subito il successo in classifica, sebbene il singolo entrò nelle Top40 di 6 nazioni, ma la consacrò agli occhi della critica e le fece vincere subito due Grammy Awards, per la Best rock song e la Best female rock vocal performance; oltre a queste venne anche nominata per la canzone dell'anno. Il testo è rivolto ad un ex fidanzato che nella fattispecie, sebbene Alanis Morrissette non l'abbia mai voluto confermare ufficialmente, è l'attore americano Dave Coulier. La traccia di chitarra è stata incisa da Dave Navarro (all'epoca Red Hot Chili Peppers), mentre quella di basso da Flea.
