Substitute è una canzone degli Who, scritta dal chitarrista Pete Townshend, rilasciata come singolo nel 1966 (aggiundicandosi il quinto posto in classifica nel Regno Unito) e riproposta 10 anni dopo, stavolta settimi. È stata pubblicata con l'album Meaty Beaty Big And Bouncy, ed è ispirata dall'idea che aveva al tempo lo stesso Townshend, ovvero che gli Who potessero essere il "sostituto" dei Rolling Stones. È uno dei brani immancabili da sempre ai concerti del gruppo, ed è stata reincisa anche dai Ramones, dai Sex Pistols e dai Blur.
